This summer the Old Salt Fishing Foundation and Yellowfin have teamed up to bring back Billfishing on the West Coast of Florida! There are 3 events this year which start in about a week. Each event is going to be run the same exact way with consistent rules and entry fees. The top team is looking at a $50,000 purse. Brian Turner of Team Hauling Grass (a past Loop winner) said, “This is the pinnacle of hard-core angling; these events are the ones to win, because they separate the boys from the men!”
The Yellowfin Billfish Classic, July 22 through the 26th hosted by Marina Jacks is the first leg of this extreme three-part series. Yellowfin is proud to be the presenting sponsor for the series and the title sponsor for the first event right here in our own backyard. “When I heard anglers and owners refer to the series as the Ironman of Bill fishing I thought, that’s what Yellowfin is all about!” said Yellowfins President, Wylie Nagler.
Tom Verdensky, President of the Old Salt Fishing Foundation says, “We have been working for some time to bring back a series of billfish events to showcase the virtually untapped billfish fishery that we have here in the central gulf.” The Old Salts are honored to crown the Triple Crown winner at this years 43th annual Loop Tournament, which is the third and final leg of the series. They are excited to partner with Crosthwait Tournament and yellowfin and its inaugural Billfish Classic. The events have traditionally been fished by more sportfish yachts than center console boats, Yellowfin with the toughest testing laboratory in the world, not to mention the new line of 42’s, have give more anglers the opportunity to fish these open water events. It looks to be a series of battle-ax vs. battlewagon!
